We had a policy that users were supposed to reboot their computers once per day, and suggested to do so at the end of the day, to ensure that programs and files were not left open. After doing that the user was able to open the file normally. We addressed it as I mentioned in my first post - when a user reported a file was opening as "read only" we had them close it and popped into the file server to close it as well (since it was stuck showing that it was open by someone). Ahhh yes, this is definitely the issue we ran into then, but unfortunately I don't have a fix for it.
